Our Journey: A Timeline of Resilience & Impact

1994 • A Humble Beginning
Founded by the visionary Sr. Noel Christine and a dedicated group of volunteers, Shramabhimani Kendraya began its work with the poor communities of Negombo. Our mission was simple yet profound: to serve with love and fight for justice.

1999 • Growing with Purpose
Our insistence on quality service and hard work to meet society’s most pressing needs became our credo, leading to early successes in social development and laying the foundation for future growth.

2000 • Expanding Our Reach
Our reputation for impactful work allowed us to expand our services across the Gampaha district, continuing our vital social works to serve a wider community.

2010-2014 • A Period of Dormancy
Like many grassroots organizations, we faced significant challenges due to a lack of funding resources and were forced to pause our operations.

2014 • A Youth-Led Revival
A new generation of passionate youth, inspired by our original mission, stepped forward to rebuild the movement. Their energy and commitment breathed new life into our cause.

2016 • A New Chapter Begins
Officially registered as a non-governmental organization, Shramabhimani Kendraya was reborn. We refocused our efforts on the heart of the struggle: empowering factory workers in the Free Trade Zones and advocating for their rights.

Today • A Multifaceted Force for Change
We now work across health, environment, and human rights sectors in Gampaha. Through our dedicated admin team and community-led groups of laborers and farmers, we continue to uphold the lifestyle and rights of the people we serve.
